I have a pretty amazing husband. This past Christmas he surprised me with a new lens and a Heidi Hope Photography workshop. I cried. Literally. I knew that there was so much I could learn from one of the most successful photography studios in North America and one of the most admired (and copied) photographers in the baby photography industry.
I wasn't sure what exactly I would learn. Maybe how to shoot a little differently. Maybe a little bit about in person sales, or maybe how to up my SEO. I learn all of that and so much more. I learned to have confidence in myself, my business and my work. That alone was priceless.

The workshop had a small group of 12 photographers of all different backgrounds, from all over the country (and the world). Heidi and her husband Shaun answered any and every question we asked. I knew they would be open, but I was surprised at HOW open and willing to help they really were. Day one was all about yourself as an artist and how to find the value in you and your work.
Day 2 we got to shoot in the most beautiful natural light studio. I have a feeling after this weekend I'm going to hate my studio lights! Heidi went through a newborn, sibling and family session. I was happy to find that we do most things exactly the same!

After some marketing talk we shot a dreamy mother daughter maternity. Natural light + maternity....sold. I picked up some helpful tips I will put to use for my next maternity session! Now some one get me some white curtains stat!

Day 3 started with some editing workflow, also very close to what I was already doing. Heidi had some great tips and time saving workflow tools I had no idea about. That means quicker turn around time for my clients!
On the shooting schedule was a cake smash on Heidi's hand painted backdrop, 10 month twins and Heidi and Shaun's 6 month old son.

We wrapped up the last day with some one on one time with Heidi. Those who know me realize I can talk a lot. I honestly didn't have one question left to ask. All I could do was thank her for being so generous with her knowledge and be on my way!
What I took away from this was that I need to do business a little better. That I need to give my clients the best experience, the best service and the best images I can possibly provide. I'm looking forward to the future of Heather Best Photography and The Baby Whisperers.
Thanks again to my husband for making it happen and Heidi Hope Photography for being so awesome to us photographers!
Here are some of my favorite shots I grabbed from the workshop:
